• SWAT used with latest UK climate projections 2018 data, for IPCC RCP8.5 scenario. Water availability at a key public water abstraction & 25 hydropower sites analysed. Large increase in number of days demand unmet, even under reduction Hydropower generation becomes more seasonal and declines annually on average. Adaptation required to ensure future efficiency supply security. Wales, United Kingdom. Climate change is predicted have large impact the hydrological regimes Welsh rivers. However, its influence capability sectors, such as (PWS) hydroelectric power (HEP), not yet fully understood. We use Soil Assessment Tool (SWAT) generate (2021–2079) streamflows worst-case scenario greenhouse gas emissions (Representative Concentration Pathway 8.5) two catchments Conwy Tywi. streamflow output estimate total unmet PWS changes characteristics HEP. assessed using Evaluation And Planning (WEAP) system increasing, static, declining scenarios. Mann-Kendall analysis performed detect characterise trends. Under all scenarios, there increased occurrence insufficient satisfy demand. For HEP, decrease annual volume results loss potential, despite an increasing that maximum reached. Changes HEP are most pronounced medium-term (2021–2054), rate slowing after 2060. provide novel perspective resource giving context management planning sustainability efficiency.

Regional climate change scenarios and their impacts on water requirements for wheat production in Iran

We simulate the effect of climate change on water requirements of cold seasonwheat in various climatic zones of Iran. The research considers both observedclimate (temperature and precipitation) changes during recent decades (1960-2009)based on instrumental records and projected future changes to 2100 based on theMAGICC/SCENGEN 5.3 compound model. 20 General Circulation models are usedbased on a...

Investigation on Climate Change in Meteorological Stations of Guilan Province and its Impacts on Water Balance

Climate has always been changing during the lifetime of the earth, and has appeared in the form of the ice age, hurricanes, severe and sudden temperature changes, precipitation and other climatic elements, and has dramatically influenced the environment, and in some cases has caused severe changes and even destructions. Some of the most important aspects of climate changes can be found in preci...

Assessing Climate Change Impacts on Global Hydropower

Currently, hydropower accounts for close to 16% of the world’s total power supply and is the world’s most dominant (86%) source of renewable electrical energy. The key resource for hydropower generation is runoff, which is dependent on precipitation. The future global climate is uncertain and thus poses some risk for the hydropower generation sector. The crucial question and challenge then is w...

Regional Climate Change Impacts on Irrigation Vulnerable Season Shifts in Agricultural Water Availability for South Korea

Reservoirs are principal water resources that supply irrigation water to paddy fields and play an important role in water resources management in South Korea. For optimal irrigation reservoir operation and management, it is necessary to determine the duration of irrigation water shortages. Management of reservoir operation and irrigation scheduling should take into consideration essential varia...
